With Spain already lying in wait having already made the final, England take on Argentina in a blockbuster semi-final clash on Wednesday night (15 July)
For those easyJet customers up in the air during these final crunch matches, they will be able to stay up to date with all the key moments while travelling.
Customers flying across easyJet’s network during England’s semi-final and the final itself will be able to join in the excitement thanks to scores relayed directly from the airline’s Operations Control Centre at London Luton Airport.
The airline is carrying thousands of football fans across Europe this summer, with many travelling to enjoy the atmosphere of one of the world’s biggest sporting events, while others follow the tournament from home.
The live updates can be relayed via the airline’s Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) – the only way to communicate with easyJet aircraft while flying at 38,000 feet – which can then be announced by easyJet pilots directly from the flight deck to passengers in the cabin.
For those who wish to catch up with the action after they land and don’t want to know the score, there will also be a ‘Match of the Day’-style spoiler alert ahead of any announcement.
EasyJet's Chief Pilot, Alexander Gerritsen, said: “The World Cup always captures the imagination of millions of football fans and this year is no exception, with some incredible matches so far.
“Whether it's England taking on Argentina for a place in the final to play Spain or the final itself we know many of our customers will be keen to keep up with the action while travelling.
“Our pilots will be match ready to provide updates from 38,000 feet so that fans flying during these huge games don't miss a moment of the excitement.”
