Junkanoo is a colourful, cultural celebration in Nassau & Paradise Island

Nassau & Paradise Island – known as the gateway to The Bahamas – not only lends itself to being one of the most accessible Caribbean escapes from the UK (just a 10-hour direct flight from London), but also a destination where your clients can explore their favourite interests – and discover new ones – through its calendar of world-class festivals and events.

Whether big-time foodies, sport fanatics, music lovers or culture seekers, there’s something on Nassau & Paradise Island to match every client’s travel style. Here, we highlight five fantastic events that will transform your client's Bahamian getaway into an immersive, unforgettable experience.

Junkanoo

When? December/January

For clients wanting to immerse themselves in the islands’ treasured culture, they can’t miss Junkanoo. Filling the streets of downtown Nassau with colours, feathers and fun, Junkanoo originated from West African customs, and has evolved over centuries to become one of the most spectacular celebrations in not just the Bahamas, but the entire Caribbean. Expect parades filled with elaborate costumes, high-energy dances and live music performed with traditional goombay drums, cowbells and brass instruments.

Clients visiting outside of December and January? Don't worry – they can still experience a sample of the celebrations at Junkanoo Fest, held every Tuesday and Friday evening at Marina Village at Atlantis.
