Windstar has finalised the total overhaul of its original sailing yacht, marking a key milestone in the line's multi-million dollar fleet modernisation.
Wind Star will be the first in the Wind Class portfolio to complete both phases of the ‘Setting Sails’ initiative, which was first announced in October 2024.
Following an extensive refit at Spain's Navantia shipyard, the luxury yacht debuted its new look on a maiden post-transformation voyage from Lisbon to Barcelona earlier this month.
Its redesign includes a renovation of two of its three restaurants, a refresh of all staterooms with new tech and bedding, and a “reimagined” Owner’s Suite.
“This transformation is about honouring where we started while sailing confidently into what’s next,” said Stijn Creupelandt, chief operating officer of Windstar Cruises. “As our original sailing yacht, Wind Star has always held a special place in our fleet. With these significant updates, we’ve honoured what guests love most while elevating every aspect of the experience. Now, she’s ready to deliver that experience in entirely new ways, in some of the world’s most iconic destinations.”
The updated staterooms include new upholstered headboards, integrated lighting and convenient bedside charging, building on earlier enhancements such as upgraded technology, Starlink connectivity and new TVs with on-demand content.
Meanwhile, main dining room Amphora has been given new flooring, wall finishings, ceilings treatments and custom banquette seating. Elsewhere, Veranda – its breakfast and lunch restaurant – has been given a “reimagined” buffet layout to create more “seamless” dining experience.
The large-scale refurbishment follows the 2023 upgrade of Wind Star’s communal spaces, which included the transformation of its lobby, Compass Rose Lounge and Yacht Club Cafe. Its spa also underwent a makeover with the addition of a new, larger pool and Whirlpool, and the expansion of its treatment menu.
The Wind Star overhaul headlines a fleet-wide modernisation of Windstar’s three sailing yachts. The 342-guest Wind Surf is set to complete its phase-two refit in December 2026, followed by Wind Spirit in March 2027, unifying the Wind Class under the brand’s updated “modern yacht” aesthetic.
