TTG quizzed readers after reports emerged that average room rates at the US president’s hotel empire had fallen by up to 63% at all but one of his properties.
Analysis by FairFX showed that a standard double room at Trump Las Vegas in January 2017 prior to Trump’s inauguration was priced at £637 – but one year on, a two-night break in January is on offer for £237.
While FairFX cautioned that other factors may be at play such as currency concerns, it noted that the falling prices were suggestive of a widespread fall in demand, especially as prices have also fallen in Trump’s non-US properties.
Trump Turnberry in Scotland for instance has reportedly seen the average cost of a two-night stay slip 57%, from £498 to £215.
Readers were subsequently asked by TTG whether they would stay in a Trump hotel. Eighty-seven percent replied “no”, stating that they did not want to support Donald Trump or any of his businesses.
Just 12% said yes, insisting “it was just a hotel and politics has nothing to do with it”.
