It follows an inspiring effort by Corin and his family to bring Maverick to the UK for urgent treatment in January, after he was diagnosed with a serious heart condition in his birthplace of Istanbul.
Little Maverick Corin was born in September to Corin, who is British, and his wife Eda, who is Turkish. Maverick held a British passport, but the family initially struggled to secure an advised transfer to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children to be stabilised, before then travelling to another major UK hospital for surgery.
Travel colleagues from across the country rallied with force to support the family on social media, and one of Corin's posts on his Facebook page was shared more than 2,000 times before Bristol Royal Hospital for Children then confirmed to TTG it would accept Maverick.
Despite Maverick’s safe flight and admission to the hospital, he tragically passed away in early February.
A Gofundme page has been set up to raise funds for the family, who paid for Maverick’s air ambulance transfer themselves.
Sean Peloe wrote on the page – which has raised almost £3,500 of a £7,500 target – that the money raised would go towards “the financial burden of his [Maverick’s] medical care and funeral expenses”.
“We are all devastated by the heartbreaking news of the passing of baby Maverick “Mav” Corin – a brave little boy who fought with all his strength for a chance at life,” he wrote.
“Born with severe heart failure and in desperate need of a transplant, Maverick’s journey saw his Mummy and Daddy (Eda and Adam) tirelessly fighting to bring him to the UK for life-saving care after initial hurdles with his eligibility for NHS treatment.
“Despite their courage, unending love, and the tremendous support from communities, family and friends, Maverick sadly lost his battle.
“His short life touched so many, and now, as his family faces unimaginable grief and the financial burden of his medical care and funeral expenses, we are coming together to support them in his memory.
“Please help us raise funds to honour Maverick and ease the burden on his loved ones during this devastating time.”
