Addressing the House of Commons on Monday (9 March), John Healey said more than 37,000 British nationals had so far been evacuated from the Middle East since conflict there began late last month.
Three UK government charter flights have so far taken off, "with more to come this week", said the secretary of state.
"More than 170,000 people have registered their presence, which has allowed us to get them the information, support and advice that they need," Healey continued. "More than 37,000 British nationals have been evacuated since the start of the crisis response."
He added the foreign secretary and Foreign Office teams were working "as fast as possible to get our people out of the region".
The FCDO at the weekend launched a booking portal for British nationals looking to leave the Middle East via government-chartered flights.
Healey's comments come after Tui on Monday confirmed it had brought home 600 holidaymakers across several of its markets who found themselves stranded around the world owing to the conflict in the Middle East.
Tui steps up repatriation effort
Tui said a numbers of customers were able to return to the UK on flights organised by Tui Airways as part of wider Tui Group repatriation efforts. This included flights from the Maldives to Manchester and Frankfurt for holidaymakers unable to return by transiting through the Middle East as planned.
A further two flights operated from Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates – one to Manchester and the other to Hanover – via a stopover in Crete.
"Our teams are working closely with airline partners and colleagues across the Tui Group to make arrangements to bring customers home," said a spokesperson. "We will continue to explore all available options to support further returns where possible."
They added: "Customers currently in destination are being kept updated directly as our teams continue working with airline and operational partners to support their journeys home."
Tui is continuing to operate to Cyprus despite a drone impact at the RAF's Akrotiri base last week. The FCDO has not issued any advice against travel to the island.
