Marriott International recently opened its fourth hotel under the emerging Moxy brand in New York City, sited where the Lower East Side meets SoHo at 145 Bowery.
Mitchell Hochberg, president of developer Lightstone, described the location as “accessible rather than exclusive”. “By providing a stunning variety of venues and concepts under a single roof, the hotel embodies the diversity of the Lower East Side,” he said. “People come to the neighbourhood to indulge their thirst for discovery, and they’ll get that at the Moxy too.”

- Five new drinking and dining venues from Tao Group Hospitality: Sake No Hana, a Japanese restaurant; piano lounge Silver Lining; The Highlight Room, a rooftop bar; The Fix, an all-day cafe and lobby bar; and underground club Loosie’s.
- 303 bedrooms inspired by the circuses, vaudeville theatres and burlesque houses that once lined the Bowery, including Kings, Executive Kings, Double Doubles, and Quads in sizes ranging from 165-195 square-feet – each offering tech-savvy amenities and appealing equally to leisure and business travellers.
- Bathrooms designed by Michaelis Boyd and Rockwell Group feature rain showers with coloured glass doors, lava stone sinks and mirrors lined with Hollywood-style lighting.
- Unique cultural and wellness programmes introduce guests to neighbourhood businesses. A stand from LES institution Economy Candy sells treats for just 5¢ per piece, while a custom vending machine offers toys from Babeland, a local erotic toy store. The hotel hosts regular DJ and live music performances, art installations and pop-ups.
