The camping specialist announced last week that it would stop selling via the UK travel trade after investment in its online platform and “natural consumer shifts to these channels” and said it had opted “to reconsider its presence within the UK travel trade in favour of direct channels”.
Agents took to the Travel Gossip Facebook page to express their disappointment. Speaking to TTG, some said they expected smaller operators to try and fill the gap.
Agencies will now consider firms including Canvas Holidays, Al Fresco and Matthews Holidays as alternatives to Eurocamp, which operates to 10 countries. Canvas Holidays is in eight destinations, Al Fresco six and Matthews offers only France.
Personal Travel Advisor Emma Higgins said: “We had a fabulous family holiday with Eurocamp in Italy and would have booked to go back. They are so much more affordable than the other operators… I don’t think there is really anything on par with Eurocamp other than Al Fresco holidays.”
Melanie Herr, a Co-operative Personal Travel Advisor, said on Facebook she was “gutted” by the move. She said Eurocamp’s withdrawal meant there was now a limited choice of operators bookable via agents, which offered affordable “quality holidays to those that otherwise wouldn’t be able to take a family away”.
“[Eurocamp] has all the waterslides, activities and entertainment. Families just love it,” she added.
