Parliamentarians attending included Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Nigel Huddleston MP, Chair of the Culture, Media and Sport Committee Dame Caroline Dinenage MP, and Chair of the Tourism and Hospitality APPG Chris Webb MP, together with a number of other MPs and peers from across Parliament.
The event brought together representatives from across the travel industry, including ABTA members such as TUI, Jet2, easyJet, Royal Caribbean and Virgin Atlantic, demonstrating the breadth, strength and interconnected nature of the UK's travel and tourism. The reception provided an opportunity to engage parliamentarians from across the political spectrum and highlight the significant contribution that outbound and international travel makes to the UK economy, jobs and communities.
Attendees were provided with tailored data showing the direct, indirect and wider supply chain contribution of the travel industry in every parliamentary constituency across the UK, demonstrating the extent to which travel businesses support employment and economic activity nationwide.
Luke Petherbridge, Director of Public Affairs at ABTA, said:
"It was encouraging to see strong engagement from parliamentarians across the political spectrum. Travel businesses support jobs and growth in every constituency, and we look forward to continuing discussions on how government can help the sector remain competitive and deliver economic growth."
ABTA and its members will now follow up with MPs and peers who attended the event to continue discussions on the industry's policy priorities and strengthen parliamentary engagement ahead of future policy and fiscal decisions.
