Castaway Island, Fiji is celebrating its 60th anniversary, marking six decades since the resort first welcomed guests on July 6, 1966. Throughout 2026, the iconic beachfront resort will honour its history by opening its archives, sharing stories from past and present guests, and inviting travellers to experience its enduring Bula spirit.
From November 22–28, 2026, Castaway Island will host a week of 1960s-inspired celebrations, paying tribute to the era in which the resort was born.
Highlights include a Traditional Fijian Welcome Ceremony, Returnee Guest Appreciation Day, Management Cocktail Evening, Environment Day featuring coral planting and the Coral Gene Bank, and a Cocktail Gala on November 27 welcoming government dignitaries, returning guests and community partners. A storytelling campaign will also invite generations of guests and longtime hosts to share photos, videos and memories spanning six decades.
Conservation remains at the heart of the resort's legacy. Recent milestones include launching Fiji's first Sculptural Coral Gene Bank with Counting Coral to support reef regeneration, helping reintroduce 15 endangered Fijian Crested Iguanas to Qalito Island, and becoming the second resort in Fiji to earn Green Key Certification.
Located in Fiji's Mamanuca Islands, Castaway Island is one of the country's longest continually operating beachfront resorts, with 65 traditional thatched bures, four dining venues and the warm Fijian hospitality that has welcomed generations of travellers.
