The initiative forms part of the tour operator's ongoing commitment to responsible travel and conservation.
African Penguins have experienced significant population declines and are now among the world's most threatened penguin species. Through the conservation efforts of Marine Dynamics and the Dyer Island Conservation Trust, specially designed nesting homes provide safer breeding spaces protected from predators and extreme weather conditions.
To celebrate the sponsorship, African Pride has launched a naming competition for its travel agent partners. Agents are invited to submit their most creative name suggestions for the penguin pair via the African Pride Facebook Group or Hablo. Entries close on Friday 19 June 2026, with the winning names selected by the African Pride team and the winner receiving a complimentary case of South African wine.
Liz Hall, Product Manager at African Pride, said:
"At African Pride, we believe travel can be a force for good. Supporting conservation initiatives such as the African Penguin & Seabird Sanctuary is one way we can help protect Africa's incredible wildlife for future generations. We wanted to do more than simply sponsor the homes, so we've invited our valued travel agent partners to get involved by helping to name our two sponsored penguins. It's a fun way to raise awareness of an important conservation project while engaging the trade community that supports us so strongly."
Travel agents wishing to enter should visit one of African Pride's agent communities – Agent Insiders, First Class Travel Group, African Pride UK Agents Group or Hablo – and comment on the dedicated competition post, or email marketing@african-pride.co.uk with their suggested names. Entries close on Friday 19 June 2026, with the winning names and competition winner to be announced in a Facebook post on Tuesday 30 June 2026.
