Designed by acclaimed architecture studio OHLAB, Terreno Barrio Hotel occupies two interconnected buildings between Palma’s Paseo Marítimo and the pine forests surrounding Bellver Castle.
The hotel combines a restored 1930s building with a contemporary timber-clad structure connected by a newly created public gathering place that links the streets above and below.
The hotel’s dual personality reflects the spirit of El Terreno itself. The original building embraces the barrio’s nostalgic, artistic energy with 21 individually designed rooms, a rooftop cocktail bar overlooking the Bay of Palma, and Destape - a lively restaurant helmed by chef Gabriel Conti that combines regional produce, artisanal precision and an unfiltered, contemporary approach to Mediterranean cuisine.
After-hours, guests can visit Dos Rombos, a speakeasy-style club with a hidden entrance, which reinterprets bar and club culture in the neighbourhood.
Meanwhile, the new, contemporary building addition looks toward the future of hospitality, housing 20 additional rooms alongside a spa, hammam, gym, co-working space, cinema, rooftop pool and pop-up gallery designed for creative programming and cultural exchange.
Sustainability is embedded throughout the project, without compromising on comfort or design.
The new building has been designed in accordance with Passivhaus standards, while the project has achieved LEED Platinum certification, positioning it among Europe’s leading examples of energy-efficient hospitality design.
Inside the hotel, Mediterranean minimalism meets tactile craftsmanship. Natural stone, terrazzo made from recycled demolition rubble, warm timber and locally crafted furniture create interiors that feel both cinematic and deeply rooted in Mallorca. Throughout the property, works by local artists and makers reinforce the hotel’s connection to the island’s creative scene.
As Palma evolves into one of Europe’s most dynamic creative destinations, the hotel feels emblematic of a new hospitality movement: thoughtful, design-led, locally grounded and culturally alive.
