The airport confirmed on Sunday (26 July) that it remains "fully operational" and is supporting the region's emergency response, with priority currently being given to departing flights in coordination with local authorities.
Bus services also remain operational, while the city's tram service is running non-stop between Merignac Soleil and Bordeaux airport.
However, hotels in the immediate vicinity of the airport have been closed, with passengers advised to contact their accommodation providers outside evacuation zones. Airport terminals are also closed overnight, meaning overnight stays are unavailable on site.
The operational update comes as firefighters continue to tackle widespread wildfires across France and Spain. More than 250,000 people have been evacuated in France and a further 116,000 in Spain.
French president Emmanuel Macron is holding an emergency cabinet meeting at the time of writing, while Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez is expected to visit fire-hit areas in the Valencia region, including Vall d’Uixo, where around 6,500 hectares have been destroyed.
The UK's Foreign Office (FCDO) updated its travel advice for France on 26 July to include further information on wildfires affecting parts of Gironde, where Bordeaux is located, and Landes.
The FCDO warned that campsites, tourist accommodation and residential areas have been evacuated, with access restrictions and road closures possible at short notice.
It advised travellers in, or planning to visit, affected areas to follow instructions from local authorities, check with accommodation providers or travel companies before travelling, and call the emergency services on 112 if assistance is required.
Spain travel advice
The FCDO has also updated its travel advice for Spain following wildfires in Madrid and Avila, where Spanish authorities have declared a national emergency.
The department warned there are also reports of fires in other inland areas of the country and advised travellers to monitor local emergency updates and follow official instructions at all times.
