The UK boss of MSC Cruises has revealed his ambition to base a ship in the UK “for the next 20 years”.
Antonio Paradiso, MSC’s managing director UK and Ireland, revealed his intentions for the line to return to the UK in 2019 in an interview with TTG earlier this year, and reiterated that sentiment at a float out ceremony for new ship MSC Seaview in Trieste last week.
The news comes following strong sales for MSC Magnifica, which arrives in the UK next April and marks a return to Southampton for the brand after a three-year absence.
Paradiso revealed there would “definitely be one ship located in Southampton next summer”, but didn’t specify which.
“Given our ambitious expansion plans it is just a matter of time before we place a big or a new ship in the UK [long-term],” he said. “It is my commitment to have a large ship out of Southampton in the summer months.
“I can’t say the name of the ship yet… but I am committed to having a ship in the UK for the next 20 years.
