At least 12 people have died after the bus, carrying cruise ship passengers from South Florida to Mayan ruins in eastern Mexico, flipped over a highway on Tuesday morning.
A statement from Royal Caribbean Cruises has confirmed that no one from the UK or Ireland was involved in the incident.
The statement read: “Our hearts go out to all those involved in the bus accident in Costa Maya. We are doing all we can to care for our guests, including assisting with medical care and transportation.
“Our 27 guests from Celebrity Equinox and Serenade of the Seas were on a bus tour to the Chacchoben ruins. We can confirm that no UK or Ireland national are involved in this incident.
“Our team continues to work with the local authorities to learn more about the accident.”
Equinox is on a seven-night Caribbean cruise that departed Port Miami on Saturday, December 16, with calls Key West, Florida; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico; and Georgetown, Grand Cayman.
Serenade is on a seven-night Caribbean Cruise that departed Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Friday, December 15, with calls to Key West, Florida; Roatan, Honduras; and Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico.
