Christina Astill, from Go-Cruise, has become godmother of the Emily Bronte and Tracey Scales, from Travel Counsellors, the godmother of the Thomas Hardy. The two ships are identical but for the colour schemes.
The pair were flown out to the ceremony – which was preceded by a three-course lunch onboard – to carry out the tradition of smashing champagne bottles against the ships’ hulls.
Astill told TTG: “I have enjoyed selling Riviera Travel’s cruises since it started working with agents a few years ago.
“I was absolutely thrilled to win. I have already called some of my clients to tell them, and three local newspapers have run stories.
“I have been to ship launches before but I never thought I’d be one of the people actually cutting the ribbon.”
Astill said she was “really impressed” by the ships. “It [the Emily Bronte] just exceeds expectations.
“I like how much light there is, even on the lower-deck, and the standard of the balconies is impressive. The five-star rating is well-deserved.”
Astill added: “Riviera has always been very trade-friendly, which that fact that they’ve made us godmothers and held this event shows.”
Scales is such a fan of Riviera’s product that she had already booked a family holiday on the Thomas Hardy for Christmas 2017. “The itinerary was really appealing – I’m sure I’ll feel very proud,” she said.
“The ship is just stunning and the food was amazing.”
