All three Founders' Galleries have been redesigned, offering a fresh and contemporary look at the lives and legacy of Joséphine and John Bowes.

Developed through extensive research and shaped by community voices, the reimagined galleries present a more personal and human perspective on the museum’s co-founders. Through letters, objects and archival discoveries, visitors can explore the couple as collectors, partners and cultural figures.

For the first time in over 40 years, all three gallery spaces have been fully redesigned, with interactive displays and flexible layouts creating a more immersive and accessible visitor experience, while reconnecting the museum with the surrounding Teesdale landscape.

A renewed focus on Joséphine Bowes also highlights her work as an artist, with rarely seen works now on display.

The Bowes Museum offers strong appeal for cultural itineraries, group travel and educational visits, with its château setting, collections and visitor facilities making it a key stop in the North East.
