Tenerife remains one of Europe's most popular year-round holiday destinations, but according to Spring Hotels' Chief Sales Officer Jo Robinson, first-time visitors often discover the island offers far more variety than they expect.
"People still come to Tenerife for sunshine and relaxation - that hasn't changed and remains a huge part of the island's appeal. But increasingly, people want a holiday that gives them a bit more - great food, local culture and the feeling they've properly experienced a place, rather than just stayed in one. Tenerife lends itself brilliantly to that because there is so much variety within a relatively short distance."
Jo believes Tenerife's diversity is a key selling point for agents. "That's what surprises a lot of first-time visitors" says Jo "You can spend the morning by the pool, then head up to Teide National Park to see volcanic landscapes and Spain's highest peak, explore the historic streets of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, or stop for seafood in places like La Caleta or Los Abrigos - all in the same trip."
According to Robinson, the things that surprise first-time visitors most include:
• How different Tenerife feels from one area to the next – from the sunnier south to the greener north, the island offers dramatically different landscapes and experiences within a relatively small area.
• How easy it is to see different sides of the island – travellers can enjoy the reliable sunshine of south Tenerife while still exploring volcanic landscapes, historic towns and cultural attractions on easy day trips across the island.
• Its microclimates – beach weather in Playa de las Américas can feel very different from conditions in Teide National Park, making layers worth packing.
• How much there is beyond the beach – from whale and dolphin watching to stargazing, local gastronomy and cultural attractions, Tenerife offers far more variety than many first-time visitors expect.
For agents, highlighting these lesser-known aspects can help show both first-time and returning visitors a different side of Tenerife, while inspiring longer stays.
