Spring Hotels is highlighting the growing appeal of holidays that allow travellers to stay connected to major sporting events while away, giving travel agents another selling point for clients travelling during a summer packed with major tournaments.
With Wimbledon, The Open Championship, the Tour de France and this summer's FIFA World Cup all taking place during peak travel season, many holidaymakers are looking for destinations where they can enjoy a sunshine break without missing the sporting moments they would normally watch at home. Research from Hyatt found that 52% of Brits have, or would, plan a holiday around a major sporting event.
Across its six south Tenerife properties, Spring Hotels offers a range of ways for guests to stay connected to the sporting season.
Dedicated Sports Bars at Hotel Vulcano, Arona Gran Hotel and Hotel Bitácora will show major sporting events throughout the summer, including FIFA World Cup fixtures. At Hotel Vulcano, guests can watch multiple matches simultaneously across different screens.
Commenting on the trend, Jo Robinson, Chief Sales Officer at Spring Hotels, said: “People do not stop caring about the things they enjoy simply because they are on holiday. For many guests, major sporting moments are part of the summer they genuinely look forward to, but they do not want their holiday to revolve around searching for somewhere to watch them.
“What we are seeing is a desire for more flexibility – the chance to catch a World Cup match in the evening, keep up with Wimbledon by the pool, and still spend the rest of the day enjoying everything Tenerife has to offer. For many guests, it is about having the best of both worlds.”
The sporting appeal extends beyond viewing opportunities. Arona Gran Hotel is home to a Gold-certified Cycling Friendly Centre and offers easy access to Tenerife’s coastal cycling routes, mountain climbs and nearby Costa Adeje Golf. Meanwhile, Mare Nostrum Resort – home to Mediterranean Palace, Cleopatra Palace and Sir Anthony – offers year-round tennis courts and racquet hire.
