Eight members of the group, who were travelling on the Wizz Air flight from Heraklion to Luton on 25 August, were found to have contracted the coronavirus after returning home, according to The Guardian.
Wizz Air said in a statement: “Wizz Air was not made aware that eight passengers who travelled on the 8168 flight from Heraklion to London-Luton on 25 August had since tested positive for Covid-19.
“The airline has now informed the relevant health authorities in England who are responsible for contacting and advising the 204 other passengers. Wizz Air operates all flights in compliance with local travel regulations, and the safety of passengers and staff is the number one priority.”
This new cluster of cases affecting UK tourists returning from Crete comes after Scotland announced it would be adding Greece to its quarantine list, due to rising Covid-19 cases in the country.
Speculation is rising that England is also likely to remove its travel corridor with Greece in the next few days.
Earlier this week, Tui said it would stop trips going to the resort of Laganas in Zante from Thursday (3 September) due to a spike in Covid infections among customers returning from the island.
The Welsh government is also telling people arriving back from Zante that they must go into self-isolation.
