BA has switched its Heathrow service from Beijing Capital International to the new starfish-shaped facility, which was designed by British firm Zaha Hadid Architects.
Daxing, which has the PKX code, has four runways and capacity to expand to up to 200 million passengers a year. It will serve as an Asian hub for Skyteam airlines and most oneworld carriers, while Star Alliance airlines are expected to stay at Beijing Capital.
Andrew Brem, BA’s chief commercial officer, said: “This is an exciting development for our trade partners and their customers.
“Thanks to a daily flight between Heathrow Terminal 5 and Beijing, and convenient transport links to both city centres, the experience for our partners’ travellers – whether travelling for business or pleasure – couldn’t be smoother.”
Daxing is about 30 miles from Beijing city centre and the Xiong’an New Area and 50 miles from Tianjin. Transport links include four new highways, a new high-speed subway and railway line, which will carry passengers to Caoqiao or Beijing West stations in around 20 minutes.
