Of 82 TTG reader respondents to the question "Do you think the extension to the furlough scheme will help save travel businesses?", 43% selected "No, there are bigger problems than just staff salaries".
That said, 35% were more optimistic, selecting: "Yes, it will mean firms are better-positioned to make it through winter".
Meanwhile, 22% of respondents replied: "Maybe, but many firms made decisions on redundancies based on furlough ending in October".
Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced the extension yesterday (5 November - the first day of lockdown), confirming furloughed employees will receive 80% of their usual salary for hours not worked, up to £2,500 a month.
However the travel industry has long been calling for sector-specific support.
TTG delivered its #SaveTravel letter outlining demands for the sector - addressed to Sunak and transport secretary Grant Shapps - on 1 September, but is yet to receive a response.
