Ratings score airlines based on their Covid health and safety policies on face masks, daily deep cleaning, and whether flight crew must wear PPE.
Other parameters include whether each airline provides passengers individual sanitation packs, and whether the carrier has made changes to its in-flight service.
Skyscanner surveyed 851 travellers in June, and found airlines’ approaches to passenger and crew wellbeing was ranked as the most important factor in reducing anxiety and informing flight selection, followed by health screening processes and enhanced cabin cleaning.
“In this uncertain time for air travel, it’s essential we do all we can to empower travellers to make informed decisions and support the industry as it works to restore consumer confidence,” said Skyscanner senior product director Phil Donathy.
“Our research shows travellers want to better understand airline safety measures to get a sense of what the experience will be like onboard in a Covid-19 impacted world."
AirlineRatings.com founder Geoffrey Thomas said the move had already resulted in several airlines upgrading their safety measures.
The ratings are sourced from more than 400 airlines, and is regularly refreshed as airlines tweak their practices.
