The Well Health-Safety Rating is an evidence-based, third-party verified accreditation system for new and existing venues – including hotels and resorts.

Developed by the International Well Building Institute (IWBI), the rating is based on five aspects – cleaning and sanitation; emergency preparedness; health service resources; air and water quality management; and stakeholder engagement and communication.

An advisory group, which includes representatives from a wide range of hotel, resort and property firms including the likes of Mandarin Oriental and Wyndham, contributed to the development of the measures, along with several medical experts, to establish best practice.

“Hotels and resorts are among the hardest hit by Covid-19,” said IWBI president Rachel Gutter. “By earning the Well Health-Safety Rating seal, properties signal to guests and employees that evidence-based protocols, grounded in science, have been adopted and verified with third-party document review.”

Initially rolled out in the US, with New York’s Yankee Stadium the first venue to be accredited in August, the IWBI is now extending the programme to UK venues.
