Each year, the town’s businesses pay tribute to Chloe and Liam by dressing their windows with pink and blue hearts, and raising money for the The Chloe and Liam Together Forever Trust – the foundation set up in their memory by their families..
The trust collects money to award as grants to local youngsters to help them achieve their ambitions across a wide range of disciplines, including performance art and sport. To date, the trust has awarded more than 130 grants, totalling in excess of £250,000.
This year’s commemoration will take place on Saturday (22 May). Westoe Travel director Graeme Brett said: "Every year, the town will remember the young couple, who were well known in the town through their love of music, performance and sport.
"South Shields is a very close-knit community, and the support for the families is amazing. Westoe Travel’s shop will be decorated in pink and blue hearts. The town hall will be lit up pink and blue in the evening, and businesses will join in with special cakes, flower displays and getting dressed in pink and blue."
