Six Senses has long been known for its proactive role in the health of its guests, but Neil Jacobs thinks there is still even more the hotels could be doing: “You need to be there before and after for them too so there can be a more sustained approach to playing a part in their wellbeing.”
Part of this is introducing assessments of biomarkers to “understand at a molecular level what ails people”, he says. Sounds like deep stuff - but there’s still more too.
“We’ve been working with Dr Mehmet Oz, who’s something of a household name in the US, on how we can introduce The RealAge Test which is something he has developed; it’s even used by the US government,” Jacobs says.
By examining up to 125 factors related to health, feelings, diet, and fitness, the test is a unique calculation of your body’s “health age”. When you take the test, you can see how much of your life has been “wasted”; I took it and mine was 5.3 years.
But Jacobs is also keen to point out that Six Senses’ spas are not “medical spas”. Rather, he believes they can achieve a lot without going to those levels anyway. “We’re religious about what we do, but we’re not evangelical,” he adds.
