The core team of 10 left Cornwall on 10 August to start the 874-mile challenge and are being joined en route by more than 40 others. They are expected to arrive on Saturday (29 August).
Globally, similar events are planned to achieve a cumulative 30,000km total – equal to circumnavigating Africa.
Ride4Rangers is a collaboration with conservation charity Tusk. In other events, a team in South Africa’s Kruger National Park are doing a relay walk from north to south, while in northern Kenya, another team are doing a horse ride for rangers traversing the Borana conservancy and into Lewa conservancy.
Tusk chief executive Charlie Mayhew said: “As we come out of lockdown we are starting to realise the effect of Covid-19 across the world, and no more so than in Africa where the economic impact of the global shut down has been devastating with the tourism and conservation sectors starved of vital revenue required to protect both wildlife and livelihoods.”
